The American Beverage Association (ABA) is the trade association for America's non-alcoholic refreshment beverage industry, representing The Coca-Cola Company, Pepsi and Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, among others. Founded in 1919 as the American Bottlers of Carbonated Beverages and renamed the National Soft Drink Association in 1966, ABA today represents hundreds of beverage producers, distributors, franchise companies and support industries.
ABA’s members employ more than 211,000 people who produce U.S. sales in excess of $99 billion per year. Members market hundreds of brands, flavors and packages, including carbonated soft drinks, ready-to-drink teas and coffees, bottled waters, fruit juices, fruit drinks, and sports and energy drinks.
ABA provides a neutral forum in which members convene to discuss common issues while maintaining their tradition of spirited competition in the American marketplace. The Association also serves as a liaison between the industry, government and the public, and provides a unified voice in legislative and regulatory matters.
As the national voice for the non-alcoholic refreshment beverage industry, the American Beverage Association offers information on legislation, science, technology, recycling, water re-use and the law. The staff of legislative, scientific, technical, legal, solid waste and communications experts effectively represents members’ interests.
The American Beverage Association has teamed up with the Alliance for a Healthier Generation to develop the national School Beverage Guidelines. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation is a joint initiative of the American Heart Association and the William J. Clinton Foundation to fight one of our nation’s leading health threats – childhood obesity.
The Alliance aims to eliminate childhood obesity and to inspire all young people in the United States to develop lifelong, healthy habits. To this end, the Alliance is working nationally to create awareness and real solutions for the childhood obesity epidemic.
