First-year report shows School Beverage Guidelines drive 41 percent drop in calories

The significant reduction of calories after the first year of the three-year phase-in of the initiative shows industry delivering on its commitment to cut calories in America's schools as part of a broader effort to teach children the importance of a balanced diet and exercise.

The School Beverage Guidelines Progress Report 2006-2007 is the initial report on implementation of the Guidelines, which call for industry to provide for lower-calorie, smaller-portion and nutritious options in schools. The industry also has committed to remove all full-calorie soft drinks by the 2009-2010 school year. For Full Release, click here.

Majority of Americans Overwhelmingly Support Beverage Industry’s New School Vending Policy

An overwhelming majority of Americans support the beverage industry’s new school vending policy, according to a recent nationwide poll of 800 adults conducted by Public Opinion Strategies on behalf of the American Beverage Association (ABA). In fact, 81 percent of those surveyed favor the new industry policy.
